Can I Mismatch the Impedance of Captor X Pro and my Amplifier?

Captor X Pro supports 4Ω, 8Ω and 16Ω operation, allowing it to match a wide range of amplifiers and speaker cabinets. For safe operation, always configure Captor X Pro's amplifier and cabinet impedance settings to match your connected equipment. Failure to do so may result in damage to your amplifier, load box or speaker cabinet. In the instance that a mismatch needs to be actioned (i.e. for amplifiers with a 2Ω speaker tap), It is generally accepted that a small mismatch is not a problem if you play the amp at a low level, but this isn’t a general rule.

What are the Load Voicing Options on Captor X Pro?

Captor X Pro features a triple-voiced load architecture comprising:

• Reactive – Natural: for a softer top end with increased resonance and bloom.
• Reactive – Presence: for tighter low-end response and enhanced top-end definition.
• Resistive - for a flatter, more consistent load response when maximum precision is required.

Each mode changes how your amplifier interacts with the load, allowing you to tailor feel and response to suit your playing style.

How does the programmable passive attenuator work?

Captor X Pro uses a relay-controlled auto-transformer attenuator offering more multiple fixed attenuation steps, all the way down to silent operation. This passive design preserves the amplifier's dynamics, feel and tonal integrity while reducing volume.

What is the True Stereo DynIR™ Engine?

Captor X Pro's True Stereo DynIR™ Engine allows two microphones (or static IRs) to be positioned independently across the stereo field.

Alternatively, Dual Mono mode routes each microphone to its own dedicated output with completely independent cabinet, microphone and post-FX processing, making it ideal for advanced recording and live applications.

What is the Virtual Load Shaper?

Virtual Load Shaper applies selectable post-load impedance curves to the processed direct signal, allowing you to fine-tune the tonal response sent to the Line/DI outputs and headphones.

Choose from factory curves or create your own to add weight, tighten the low end or alter the overall feel of your direct tone without affecting the connected speaker cabinet.

What are the Pre- and Post-FX Loops used for?

Captor X Pro features both a mono Pre-FX Loop and a stereo Post-FX Loop, allowing external effects to be positioned exactly where they perform best.

The Pre-FX Loop is ideal for dynamic and tone-shaping processors such as compressors and EQs before the internal Torpedo™ processing. The Pre-FX Return can also be used as a line input for external preamps or amp modelers.

The Stereo Post-FX Loop is designed for stereo time-based effects such as delay, reverb, chorus and modulation, allowing them to be applied after cabinet simulation for maximum clarity, width and realism.

Can I use Captor X Pro without a computer?

Yes. Captor X Pro is fully standalone and all core functions are accessible directly from the front panel. For deeper editing, preset management and access to additional DynIR™ cabinets, connect to Torpedo Remote via USB, or use the Wireless Torpedo Remote application on your mobile device or tablet.

Can I connect Captor X Pro to an FRFR speaker?

Yes. Connect active FRFR speakers or PA systems using the balanced Line/DI outputs. The CAB OUT connection is intended exclusively for passive guitar or bass speaker cabinets.

Can I use all outputs simultaneously?

Yes. Captor X Pro allows simultaneous use of its speaker output, stereo Line/DI outputs and headphone output, making it easy to monitor locally while sending independent direct feeds to recording interfaces or front-of-house systems.

Does Captor X Pro include GENOME?

Yes. Captor X Pro includes a lifetime licence for GENOME Captor X Pro Edition, featuring an expanded Premium Post FX Suite including Astro Repeater, TetraVerb, Planet and Aether, together with the included Series-C DynIR™ Cabinet Collection.

Can I use Captor X Pro for amplifier capture and profiling?

Yes. Captor X Pro's multi-impedance reactive load, studio-grade Line/DI outputs and selectable load voicings provide an ideal platform for modern amplifier capture and profiling workflows, delivering consistent, repeatable results while preserving the feel and response of the connected amplifier.

What is the difference between Reactive and Resistive Load modes?

Reactive Load modes replicate the changing impedance of a traditional loudspeaker, preserving the natural feel and dynamic response of your amplifier.

Resistive mode presents a flatter, more consistent load, offering a tighter, more controlled response that some players prefer for precision playing or amplifier capture workflows.

Can I use Captor X Pro with solid-state amplifiers?

Yes. Captor X Pro can be used with both tube and solid-state amplifiers, provided the amplifier's power output and impedance are within the supported operating specifications.

Can I use Captor X Pro without a speaker cabinet connected?

Yes. Captor X Pro functions as a fully reactive load box, allowing your amplifier to be used silently without a connected cabinet while sending the processed signal to headphones, recording equipment or front-of-house.

Can I load my own impulse responses?

Yes. Alongside the included DynIR™ cabinet collection, Captor X Pro supports user-loaded static impulse responses, allowing you to build a personalised cabinet library using Torpedo Remote.

How many presets can Captor X Pro store?

Captor X Pro stores up to 128 presets, each capable of recalling load settings, cabinet simulation, microphones, routing, post-effects and other editable parameters for instant recall.

Can I control Captor X Pro via MIDI?

Yes. Captor X Pro supports MIDI Program Change and Control Change messages, allowing presets and compatible parameters to be recalled from MIDI controllers, switchers and other compatible devices.

Can I use external preamps and amp modelers?

Yes. The Pre-FX Return can be configured as a line-level input, allowing external preamps and amp modelers to feed directly into Captor X Pro's Torpedo™ processing and stereo Line/DI outputs.

Does the Virtual Load Shaper affect my connected speaker cabinet?

No. The Virtual Load Shaper only affects the processed direct signal sent to the Line/DI outputs and headphones. It does not alter the signal feeding your connected speaker cabinet.

Can I use Captor X Pro as an attenuator and direct box at the same time?

Yes. Captor X Pro allows you to drive a connected speaker cabinet using its passive attenuator while simultaneously sending a fully processed stereo direct signal to front-of-house, a recording interface or monitoring system.

Does Captor X Pro require Torpedo Remote?

No. Captor X Pro is fully operational directly from the hardware. Torpedo Remote provides a larger editing environment, preset management and access to additional DynIR™ cabinets and advanced configuration options.

Does Captor X Pro replace my amplifier?

No. Captor X Pro is designed to work alongside your amplifier. It provides load management, attenuation, cabinet simulation, direct outputs and signal processing while preserving the character and response of your existing amp.
