FAQs

Can Reload II be used to create a Wet/Dry/Wet cabinet configuration?

Yes indeed! Providing the connected amplifier features a secondary speaker output, Reload II’s Dual Cabinet Outputs can be used to configure two “Wet Cabinets” (in tandem with the Stereo/Dual Mono FX Loop) whilst the amplifier’s auxiliary speaker output can be used as a “Dry Cabinet”. In instances where the connected amplifier does not feature a secondary speaker output, the Dry/Wet knobs and companion switches can be used to create a quasi Wet/Dry/Wet configuration with just two cabinets connected to Reload II’s cabinet outputs.

What is the primary difference between the Torpedo Reload and Reload II?

Reload II delivers a reworked specification compared to its predecessor, removing reamping and instrument DI functionality, but adds the following features requested by the Two notes user base:

  • A significantly improved reactive load bearing a Celestion® Approved Load Response
  • A Stereo / Dual Mono FX Loop
  • Twin Channel Operation with selectable Line & Amp sources
  • Two Independently controlled cabinet outputs
  • Two Independently controlled Line outputs
  • Depth, Presence and MOJO controls per channel

Can Reload II cater for Line Level sources and Amplifier sources simultaneously?

It can indeed! Each channel on Reload II can be configured for either the Amp input or the channel-specific Line Inputs. Furthermore, both channels can be configured to run in parallel for entirely separate source processing, amplification and attenuation.

Can Reload II add an FX Loop to an Amplifier without one?

Yes! Thanks to Reload II’s fully customisable Dual Mono / Stereo FX loop, a traditional FX loop can be added post the amplifier’s poweramp stage but before Reload II’s cabinet outputs.

Can Reload II transform a low output powered amplifier into a stage ready rig?

It certainly can! Thanks to a 215W per channel power amplifier in Reload II’s architecture, low powered amplifiers can be transformed for virtually all studio- and stage-centric scenarios. In addition, amplifiers with a single speaker output can harness Reload II’s dual cabinet outputs for expanded backline control.

What are the primary differences between the Torpedo Captor and Reload II?

The Torpedo Captor is a passive attenuator and does not require a power supply when used solely as an attenuator. It features a simple, non-adjustable attenuated output (ATT). A power supply (or phantom power) is only required when using the XLR DI output. Reload II on the other hand features an active attenuator (requiring a power supply) and has a continuously adjustable attenuated output (from total silence to stage-ready source amplification). Reload II also features a dual channel architecture, inputs for both amp- & line-level sources, a stereo/dual-mono customisable FX loop and selectable impedance options catering for every amplifier in your collection.

Can I mismatch the impedance of Reload II and my amp / speaker?

For optimum performance, it is advised that the impedance between Reload II and the connected amplifier is matched. In instances where this cannot be facilitated, it is widely accepted that a small mismatch is not a problem providing the amp is kept at a low level. Irrespective of the impedance of the connected amplifier, the impedance rating of a connected cabinet to Reload is irrelevant and will not damage the amplifier or Reload II unit if a mismatch with the Amp/Load box is present.

WARNING: Before mismatching impedances – please read this article.

Can I use an amp more powerful than the rated power of the Torpedo Reload?

Please bear in mind that the published ratings of amplifiers do not follow a uniform pattern. For example, specific tube amps (either vintage or from vintage inspiration) can output more power than advertised. This is rooted in the fact that some manufacturers calculate power ratings for the amplifier when played clean; as such it is not uncommon to see a 120W vintage non-master volume and/or single channel tube amp outputting up to 200W when dialled to the max.

If your amplifier outputs more than 200W RMS, discover how to protect your amp when using a Torpedo Reload in this article.

What is a load box?

The term that describes a speaker cabinet with respect to the amplifier is the “load” and when using a tube amplifier, you should always connect to a speaker cabinet or “load”. The embedded load in Reload II is reactive and it simulates the complex impedance of a real speaker. Unlike traditional resistive loads, the Torpedo Reload reactive load feels like you are still connected to a cabinet, retaining the warmth and dynamics of your amplifier. The reactive load takes the place of your speaker cabinet in your signal chain.

To find out more about reactive load box technology and caring for your amp when using a load box, please read this article.

Is Reload II 100% analog?

Yes indeed! Reload II features a 100% analog architecture!

Does Reload II feature a cab sim?

There is no cabinet emulation within Reload II’s architecture. To apply a cabinet emulation to your Amp DI, please use the bundled GENOME application or a stand alone hardware unit like OPUS.
